Types of Braces the Positives and Negatives
Metal Braces
Positive:
The colored band options are fun for kids and they are more economical than any other option.
Metal braces are not what they used to be, they have been tapered to a smaller size and have faster results. The pain is less because of the body heat activated wires that become active based on heat.
Negative:
They are very obvious and initially uncomfortable, ceramics can be used as an alternative.
Ceramic Braces
Positive:
They blend in a lot better then regular metal braces and teeth move faster than with clear Invisalign option.
Negative:
More care is needed as they easily stain and can be harder to keep clean.
Lingual Braces
Positive:
There seems to be just one plus and that is they are Invisible from outside.
Negative:
They are initially uncomfortable and take time to get used to. Lingual Braces are also more challenging to keep clean and take longer to move teeth.
It is more costly and will not work well for extreme cases of restoration.
Invisalign
Positive:
Patients are completely free to do sport, eat and maintain hygiene as usual.
Negative:
There is a longer treatment time and higher cost are attached to using Invisalign.
It is not appropriate for extreme dental problems, & is recommended only for teens & adults.
