How to Choose the Best Dentist

How to Choose the Best Dentist
Pre-planning is the most efficient thing to do with regard to finding the right dentist. Waiting until you actually need one will cause unnecessary stress. Things to consider are licensing credentials, office hours & location, emergency treatment, Insurance & Cost. If you have a family especially younger children you may also want a family dentistry type environment that exhibits professionalism. Seek reviews and referrals from other doctors, family, and friends to help you choose the best dentist.

Licensing Credentials
First of all, you should check the credentials of the dentist in your area before making a choice. State licensing board websites will help you research the background and behavior of any licensed dentist.

Office hours & location
It's important to check times and locations before choosing a dentist especially if you need after business hours or weekend appointments. Also consider whether or not you'll be going from home, school or work to decide on the best location.

Emergency Treatment
Check out what happens if you were to call in case of an emergency you should not be directed to your local hospital. There should be an option to reach your family dentist or an affiliate during weekends, evenings, nights, and holidays.

Insurance & Cost
What will your payment options be, what forms of payment are accepted, is your insurance accepted if so what are your co-payments. What services are provided and will you need to be referred to various specialists. If possible get a quote or estimates on what services will cost, in dentistry the prices will vary and you may incur some of the cost.

Family Dentistry Environment
The office environment and your comfort with the dentist personality and staff are really important. Will he listen to your questions and try to resolve your dental needs. He or she should be more than willing to explain the treatment plan and try to soothe anxious feelings you may have.

Professionalism
The dentist, staff and the office environment should exhibit a professional atmosphere.
The policies, licenses and infection control procedures should be clearly posted. The dentist education and his affiliates or another specialist he works with should also be posted.

Ask Doctors Friends Family
Seek reviews and referrals from other doctors, family, and friends to help you choose the best dentist. They will tell how long they wait each visit, billing protocol, turnaround time for appointments, how treatments and emergencies are handled and whether or not they feel that their needs and concerns are addressed.

Braces

Types of Braces the Positives and Negatives Metal Braces Positive: The colored band options are fun for kids and they are more economical than any other option. Metal braces are not what they used to be, they have been tapered to a smaller size and have faster results.  The pain is less because of the body heat activated wires that become active based on heat. Negative: They are very obvious and initially uncomfortable, ceramics can be used as an alternative. Ceramic Braces Positive: They blend in a lot better then regular metal braces and teeth move faster than with clear Invisalign option. Negative: More care is needed as they easily stain and can be harder to keep clean. Lingual Braces Positive: There seems to be just one plus and that is they are Invisible from outside. Negative: They are initially uncomfortable and take time to get used to. Lingual Braces are also more challenging to keep clean and take longer to move teeth. It is more...
